Red Beans and Rice

Red beans & rice is a dish commonly thought to have originated in New Orleans – but it’s most definitely a Cajun tradition, as well. This dish became popular with many people in the 1800s because it was inexpensive – and it was also a good way to make the most of a ham by using the hambone and leftover scraps. Thinking back on it now, it’s hard to believe that bones and scraps could amount to something so incredibly delicious!
